Menomonie (WQOW) - Education
is a lifelong learning process, something the Menomonie School District is focusing
on with a new program. It's called community education. Beginning next month, a number of different
courses will be offered for community members.
"Why not allow them to come in and see the facilities, and then
not only see the facilities but take classes that normally they wouldn't take
during the year," said Kale Proksch, the Community Education coordinator
for the Menomonie School District.
The
Menomonie School District is thinking outside the box, or the classroom, if you
will. It will begin offering courses next month to anyone 15 or older.
"Being in the same class as a younger adult, especially in the
computer technology classes, you can learn a lot from not only the instructor
but the person sitting right next to you, and it might be a high school
student," Proksch said.
Its
a new program called community education, which encourages young and old alike
to continue learning a variety of different topics.
"Right now we have a handful of fitness and health classes,
woodworking is one of them, digital cameras and computer editing," said
Proksch.
Its
a way to get more use out of the school buildings...
"Running in the late afternoon. Probably around six to nine p.m.
The facilities really aren't used after school," Proksch said.
And
those around you.
"I think it's always beneficial to have that interaction between
younger adults and older adults, because within that class not only are they
learning from the instructor, but from one another," said Proksch.
For
the time being, the majority of classes will be held at the high school. They
will run anywhere from $20 to $40. There are no degree or credits associated
with the classes being offered.
