Eau Claire police issue more than 200 alcohol-related tickets in two weekends

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A common problem near college campuses has kept Eau Claire police busy the last two weekends.

In the past two weeks, the Eau Claire Police Department has issued more than two-hundred tickets. All of the tickets stemmed from four weekend house parties. One party accounted for more than half those tickets. Police say this type of thing is not uncommon given that school just started.

"Often times, were getting complaints from the neighbors. So it's not specifically a frat house or a sorority or things like that. Its houses in the area, typically student rentals, that new in the school year its a time when they think they can have a party and get away with it. A lot of times those parties get out of hand, and that's how police get involved," said Eau Claire Police Department's Kyle Roder.

The cost of a first offense underage drinking ticket is around $265. The fine for hosting a house party can be up to $1,000.
