Eau Claire County (WQOW) - New government jobs are on a wish list in Eau Claire County.
If department heads had their way the county would add 12 new full and part-time positions. But county leaders are recommending most of those requests be denied.
The new positions would cost the county more than $500,000 in salary and benefits. The county administrator, finance director and human resources director say while the requests have merit, they have to consider the impact on the county budget and overall county priorities.
They are recommending only four new full and part-time positions. The cost would be about $117,000.
Among the requests recommended for denial, a new social worker.
The human resources committee will meet Friday to make a recommendation to the county board.
In the past two years, department heads requested 23 new positions each year. Officials have no explanation for the lower number of requests this year.
