Menomonie (WQOW) - A local police chief officially starts his new job.
Eric Atkinson officially began his job as the Menomonie police chief on Monday. Atkinson comes from Hudson, where he was a lieutenant with the police department. Atkinson says he's excited to begin a new chapter in Menonomie and has already set some goals.
He says, "One of the things that I would really like to focus in on is building bridges with the businesses and the members who live here inside the city of Menomonie. I want to be able to have people feel that they can come to the Menomonie Police Department, express concerns and we will help them solve their particular problems. So I want to create that openness with the public and in turn that will help us better be able to do our jobs."
It's been two and a half years since Menomonie has had a permanent police chief. The city thought it had someone hired last December, but the candidate from Alaska changed his mind and backed out.mn
