Bomb squad called to area grocery store

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The bomb squad is called to a western Wisconsin grocery store after a suspicious item is found.

Hudson police say it appeared to be two plastic coffee cans duct-taped together. It was found in a shopping cart at the County Market in Hudson. Traffic was detoured while a bomb squad was called in.

The device was x-rayed and then a water-cannon was used to blow it apart. It turned out to be filled with rocks and sand.

Police now think the item may have been a home-made boat anchor that someone took out of their trunk to make room for groceries and forgot to take with them. Thanks to surveillance cameras police do have a vehicle description and person of interest they are trying to contact.
