Eau Claire (WQOW)- A UW-Stout educator is on suspension after being suspected of growing marijuana.
Thomas Harvey is facing a felony charge of manufacturing marijuana with the intent to deliver.
Eau Claire police say they received a tip that Harvey was growing marijuana in the backyard of a home on Fleming Avenue.
Harvey teaches business courses at UW-Stout. During a search of the property police found six marijuana plants along with several harvested plants.
"It's a unique situation for us, obviously most people don't grow illegal items in their backyard. We often talk about relying on the citizens within our community to be our eyes and ears and in this case we did have a citizen that was able to observe something and point that out to us," says Kyle Roder, Eau Claire Police Department.
Harvey will be in court next month. According to the university, Harvey is suspended from teaching while it reviews the case. The university does not believe Harvey did anything illegal while on campus.
