Police: Teenage driver drags Fitchburg officer in failed traffic stop

FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Police say a teenage driver dragged a Fitchburg police officer nearly a city block Monday before the officer could break free after a failed traffic stop.

Officials say the officer, 54-year-old Jay Wilson, was hospitalized for a time, but has since been released.

Officials says a 16-year-old Fitchburg boy was pulled over Monday morning for failing to have a front license plate on his car, and officers discovered a warrant for the teen's arrest.

Police say the teenager refused to get out of the car, and then pinned Wilson's arm, when the teen rolled up a front window. Officials say the teen drive then sped off.

Officials say Wilson's arm came free as the teen slowed to make a turn. Authorities say the teenage driver abandoned the car in a bank parking lot on Fish Hatchery Road and ran off, but was caught quickly at a nearby apartment complex.

Authorities say the boy's arrest warrant was for retail theft.

Authorities say the teen faces a tentative, juvenile charge of first degree reckless endangering safety and other charges.
