Eau Claire (WQOW) - There's a new effort to improve the safety of workers on dairy farms in western Wisconsin and across the state.
The Center for Dairy Farm Safety at UW-River Falls says about 40 percent of workers on Wisconsin dairy farms are Hispanic. Many don't speak English. And that can prove to be dangerous or even deadly on the farm.
The center has just received a $127,000 grant from OSHA to reach out to those workers with safety training information. Topics like handling animals, personal protection equipment and identifying hazards will be covered.
The center plans to do in-person training along with webinars and computer-based training.
