Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - A local group is concerned about
childhood obesity, and now they're fighting back.
Challenge Chippewa has recently
begun delivering a kit to area child care centers. It comes with guidelines on
how to cut back on the amount of sugary beverages kids are drinking during
snack and meal times. The group suggests serving milk and water in place of
higher calorie drinks like juice or soda.
"We know that one
in three children are already overweight, and the health problems that go along
with that include diabetes, and heart disease, and certain cancers. And then
all the dental problems that can accompany sweetened beverages. That was our
need," said Chippewa County Health Department's Robin Fedie.
Challenge Chippewa says drinking one
can of coke a day can add up to 15 pounds of fat a year.
