UPDATE: One killed when truck and car collide in Altoona


Press Release from the Altoona Police Department: On September 26, 2012 at 7:29 PM the Eau Claire Communications Center received a report of a traffic crash with multiple injuries at the intersection of US 12 and McCann Dr in the City of Altoona.

Emergency responders from Altoona Police, Altoona Fire/Rescue, Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office, Township Fire Department, Emergicare and Eau Claire Fire Department responded to the scene.

All three injured individuals were removed from the vehicles by emergency personnel.  Two occupants were transported by ambulance with life threatening injuries.  The third injured person was transported with non-life threatening injuries.  One of the injured individuals later died at Sacred Heart Hospital due to injuries received in the crash.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle entered US 12 from McCann St and was attempting to make a left turn to travel eastbound on US 12.  This vehicle pulled on to US 12 in front of a westbound vehicle which was unable to avoid a collision and struck the vehicle entering the highway.

All of Westbound US 12 and one lane of Eastbound US 12 were closed to traffic from the time of the crash until approximately 12:45 AM. 

The names of individuals are not being released today. 

The crash remains under investigation of Altoona Police Department with assistance from Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office and Eau Claire Police Department.


Altoona (WQOW)- A collision between a truck hauling hay and a car sends a number of people to the hospital.

It happened around 8 o'clock Wednesday night on Hillcrest Parkway in Altoona.

Firefighters on scene say a truck pulling a trailer full of hay bales, crashed with a car. One person had to be extricated from the car.  Two others, also inside the car, were taken to the hospital.

There is no word on how serious their injuries were. It's not clear at this time what caused the crash.
