Eau Claire (WQOW) - Plans to improve a local park are moving forward.
Wednesday night, the Waterways and Parks Commission approved improvements proposed to Owen Park. The plan includes more parking, a new pavilion and restrooms. The improvements are being made because of an effort to clean up contaminated soil in that area. Cost of the clean up and improvements are just over $3 million which is being covered by Xcel Energy.
The director of Parks and Recreation says he's happy with the feedback the city got from the community on the project. However, he's sad the park will be losing around 60 trees. The plan now goes to the city council and then DNR for approval.
