Toddler found wandering around downtown Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE - A toddler has been reunited with his mother after wandering away from his babysitter's home in Eau Claire Friday morning.

Two city employees were out walking during a break when they spotted a three-year-old wandering down Main Street towards Farwell. They brought the child to the fire station on Dewey Street, and police were contacted.

The child told them his name and that he was staying at the Beacon House. The Beacon House identified him, and contacted his mother. It appears the child was staying with a babysitter while his mother was at work, and wandered off when the babysitter fell asleep.

City employee Vanessa Helland said, "I was very worried about him, I looked at the little boy running and I thought that if that was my kid, I'd want someone to stop and make sure he was okay."

City employee Jenna Jasurda said, "He wasn't necessarily looking across the street before he dashes, and he was running pretty fast."

Police say they don't intend to investigate this as a criminal matter.
