State sells former rest stop in Hudson

Hudson (WQOW) - Some western Wisconsin business people hope to breathe new life into the site of a former rest area along I-94.

The rest area and tourism center in Hudson was closed down three years ago due to low visitor numbers and access problems.  Last year, four business people from Hudson submitted the high bid for the facility.

Last week they closed on the sale with the state for $1.25 million.  Now they are asking the city to re-zone the sixteen-acre site to allow commercial development.

One of the investors says they want to construct a multi-million dollar retail complex with ten buildings. He says they are already in talks with potential tenants.   If the re-zoning is approved, they plan to start moving earth this fall and start construction in the spring.
