Chippewa County (Press Release) - Effective Tuesday, October 2, the Chippewa Fire District is banning burning in the Village of Lake Hallie, Lafayette, Wheaton, Town of Hallie and Howard except for cooking and warming fires.

As always cooking with a gas or charcoal grill is permitted. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is rating the Fire Danger as "High" in Chippewa County and most of West Central Wisconsin. The dry conditions creates a serious danger of wild land fire.

This ban will continue in effect until the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources returns the fire index to "moderate or low" in Chippewa County.

A reminder that should a person start a fire and that fire gets away from them they are liable for the costs associated to suppress the fire.
