Eau Claire (WQOW) - The DNR wants to bring more elk to western Wisconsin and you can comment on those plans at area meetings this week.
The elk herd in the Clam Lake area numbers 175 animals. The DNR wants to bring in another 200. They also want to expand their range as far south as Rusk County.
Plans also call for starting an elk herd in the Black River State Forest, east of Black River Falls. They want to start with 75 animals with a long-term goal of about 400. A DNR big game ecologist says the plans were met with full-support at public meetings earlier this week in northern Wisconsin.
On Wednesday night you can voice your opinion at a public meeting at the Ladysmith High School. Another session is set for Thursday night at the Black River Falls Middle School. Both meetings start at 7 p.m.
