Professor David Kennedy to observe Madison police

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A national leader in progressive policing is in Madison to work with local police officials.

Professor David Kennedy has come to observe and advise Madison Police Department's Special Investigations Unit on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Chief Noble Wray introduced Kennedy. Kennedy gave a presentation to law enforcement agencies at Monona Terrace.

Kennedy says he's here to help them take the next steps to being leaders in the law enforcement field. He says law enforcement officials should be asking what they can do next, even if they had a good year.

Professor Kennedy directed the Boston Gun Project, whose "Operation Ceasefire" intervention was responsible for a more than 60 percent reduction in youth homicide victimization.

Kennedy will also be working with the department's Crime Prevention Gang Unit.
