No dogs in wolf hunt till a least mid-December

Madison (WKOW)- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is notifying hunters set to take part in the state wolf hunt that the season will open as scheduled later this month, but dogs cannot be used in training or hunting till at least December 20.

That's the date a Dane County judge has set for a hearing on the DNR's request to lift the injunction currently in place on the training and use of dogs to pursue wolves.

The injunction was asked for by a coalition of humane societies that sued the DNR, claiming a lack of reasonable restrictions on the use of dogs in the hunt would violate state animal cruelty laws and lead to bloody, possibly deadly confrontations between wolves and dogs

The hunt is set to begin on October 15, and the use of dogs was previously set to begin on November 26.
