Eau Claire (WQOW)- Leading up to the November election, union leaders are signing up nearly half-a-million new voters.
The AFL-CIO says it's recruited more than 450,000 new voters across the country to help the President win re-election. Unions view President Obama as more friendly than Governor Romney when it comes to collective bargaining. Here in Wisconsin, a union leader says unions have had a tough time in the past 18 months and took a big hit when Mayor Barrett lost to Governor Walker in the recall election. But Friday's news gives him hope for the future.
"We endorsed President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden early because we knew how important this race, how important this year was to make sure we elect somebody who is friendly to public education and somebody who believes in the middle class, the working class, and believes in the collective voice," says Ron "Duff Martin" with the Eau Claire Association of Educations.
Absentee voting begins October 22nd, two weeks before Election Day.
