Rice Lake (Press Release) - On Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 4:23 a.m., a Rice Lake Police sergeant saw a truck traveling at a high rate of speed in a 25 mph zone on the city's south side.
Upon activating the emergency lights and siren on his vehicle, the truck failed to stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed. The suspect drove the wrong way through a roundabout and through a residential yard in an attempt to elude the officer.
At this point the officer called off the pursuit due to the reckless nature of the suspect's driving.
After stopping the chase and while checking the area the sergeant located the suspect vehicle in an illuminated garage where two suspects were also hiding. The suspects, two 18-year-old males from Rice Lake, failed to exit the garage and were taken into custody after officers made entry into the garage.
One suspect, Travis Peterson, was taken to the Barron County Jail and appeared in circuit court Monday for the formal charges of knowingly fleeing an officer and underage drinking.
The other suspect, who was the passenger, was cited for underage drinking through the Rice Lake Municipal Court and was released to a responsible adult.
