Jackson County (Press Release) - On October 8, 2012 at 11:43 a.m.
the Jackson County Emergency Dispatch Center (EDC) paged for a structure fire at
N3291Nichols Road
which is located in the Township
of Irving in Jackson
County.
The EDC was reporting that
flames were coming from the Township Shop - Town Hall building at this address.
Upon arrival the department
found fire a burning in the southwest corner around the frame of a large
overhead shop door of the metal frame building. Open flames were also found burning on the inside wall from floor to
ceiling of the building in the same corner.
The department made an
offensive attack on the fire which was held to the southwest corner of the
building with a 1.75" attack line.
The structure is used as both
the Township Shop as well as the Town Hall. The fire occurred and was held to
the shop area of the building and the attached meeting area of the building did
have moderate smoke damage. It appears the road maintenance equipment stored in
the shop area also may have smoke damage.
The Department was on the
fire scene for 3.5 hours with seven Firefighters and was assisted with a
mutual aid tender from the Melrose Fire Department.
There were no injuries
reported during the fire.
The cause of the fire is
believed to be related to some pavement maintenance work that had been done by
a contractor a few hours earlier.
A damage estimate is not
known at this time and the building was insured.
