Buffalo County (Press Release) - On
October 8, 2012 at approximately. 2 p.m. the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office paged
out the Fountain City Fire Department for a small out of control brush fire on
Waumnadee Creek Road about 1 mile South of Hwy 88 in the Town of Milton.
The fire
was reported by a neighbor. The fire department
extinguished the fire and returned to the station at approximately 3:30 p.m.
At
approximately 4 p.m. the Fountain City Fire Department was again called to the
same residence. Because of the very
windy conditions at the time the fire had reignited and spread rapidly.
Fire departments from Arcadia and Tri-Community
were called in to assist Fountain City. During this second flare up two
Fire Fighters were slightly injured and taken to a local hospital emergency
room for smoke inhalation and another for a minor eye injury. Both were treated and released.
The fire burnt approximately 20 acres of grass
and woodlands. No buildings were involved.
Fire agencies had the fire under control and cleared the scene just after
midnight.
The origin of the fire is not known at this time. Investigation is continuing by the Fountain
City Fire and Buffalo County Sheriff's Office.
Currently there are burning restrictions in Buffalo County and before
ANY burning is done, you must check with your local fire department.
