Stanley (WQOW)- A middle school head football coach is being remembered Tuesday as a man who was committed to the Stanley-Boyd School District.
The 7th grade Stanley-Boyd football team will play a game Tuesday with heavy hearts. Their coach, Steve Skaare, died on Monday. Skaare had been coaching the team for the past decade. He was also a volunteer assistant with the high school team. Three of his daughters graduated from the school.
"There's a lot said about coaching football, but he also helped out a lot with the softball program," remembers Stanley-Boyd Superintendent Jim Jones. "He was just one of those guys that was just here a lot doing this, that, and the other thing."
The district says it has taken steps to help those having a tough time coping with the loss.
"We've made sure the kids are aware that we have our counselor in the middle school available and a counselor in the high school," Jones explains. "Certainly, the middle school kids have a closer connection because of the immediacy of it. But I think a lot of our high school kids were connected with Steve in one way or the other."
The school district says it will have a moment of silence in Skaare's honor Friday night before the varsity football game kicks off.
