Flu Report: FluMist or flu vaccine?

MADISON (WKOW) -- With flu season here, you may be wondering what preventative options are available.

Julie Hitt from Home Health United says there is the standard flu vaccine or the FluMist, which is a nasal spray.

Hitt says FluMist can be used in children, adolescents, and adults ages two through 49. She says for the spray works better than the vaccine for most children.

Children ages two through eight years of age who are getting vaccinated for the first time require two doses.

Health officials say FluMist may not prevent influenza in everyone who gets it. They say the most common side effects of FluMist are runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, and fever over 100°F.
