2 men pretend to be police on Madison's west side

MADISON (WKOW) -- Officials say two men pretended to be Madison police detectives while visiting a woman's west side home last week.

Madison police say one of the men pushed their way inside the house and identified himself as a Madison police detective. The man presented what looked like a "fake badge." The other man stayed outside.

Authorities say the man ordered the woman to stay away from a man with whom she had a long term relationship with prior to a recent breakup.

Police say the woman described the men leaving in a burgundy colored Ford Explorer. The woman called authorities and a dispatcher confirmed that no detectives had been sent to her house.

Authorities are describing one of the suspects as a white man, between the ages of 40 and 50, 5'8" - 6" tall, 170-180 pounds with sandy hair, who was last seen wearing a tan plaid sport coat and a black shirt. The other suspect is described as a white man, between the ages of 40-50, 5'8"- 6" tall and about 170-190 pounds.
