Monroe County (WQOW) - More than 10 years after a western Wisconsin couple was shot to death, the man convicted of pulling the trigger is sentenced.
Larry Schaffer of Neillsville was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison. He was convicted of the deaths of Kale Kvistad, Jr. and Connie DeGeorge. They disappeared from their Sparta home in 2002.
A hunter found their remains two years later near Fort McCoy. Both had been shot in the head. Even though Schaffer pleaded no contest he maintained his innocence at sentencing.
"I don't know these people, I never did ever meet them. So I'm sorry I feel bad for them too but it wasn't me," says Larry Schaffer.
Investigators believe robbery was the motive in the killings.
