Eau Claire (WQOW) - Artwork recognizing the efforts of veterans will be permanently on display here in Eau Claire.
Students in the welding program at CVTC recently crafted several pieces of artwork out of metal. Some of the pieces include the flag raising at Iwo Jima, and the Marines symbol. Today, the students donated the pieces to the VFW on Folsom Street on the city's west side. Some of the students who worked on the pieces were veterans themselves.
"We all know somebody, whether it be family, friends, students, seems like we all have a connection to people that serve in the military. So to be able to participate in an event like this is just an honor, because you can put your heart and soul into it and think of the people you know," said Wally Quaschnick, a CVTC welding instructor who helped with the project.
The plans were laid out on a computer before metal began being welded together. The pieces were originally used at the field of honor event last month.
