MADISON (WKOW) – The Dane County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Dane County Jail inmate who cut off his GPS monitoring device on Saturday.

Authorities identified the missing inmate as Jason J. Helgestad, a 21-year-old from McFarland.  He was residing at an alternative facility as part of the Pathfinders program.

Officials said a Dane County Deputy Sheriff responded to the facility after he was unable to contact Helgestad. The deputy discovered that Helgestad cut off his GPS monitoring device and fled the facility.

Authorities said Helgestad is currently serving a 180-day sentence for retail theft and bail jumping.

Officials ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 911.
