Eau Claire (WQOW) - Eau Claire North High School celebrated its 50th anniversary this week, and wrapped things up with a rededication ceremony Saturday afternoon.
Principal Dave Valk was joined by Superintendent Dr. Mary Ann Hardebeck for a ribbon cutting ceremony. Former faculty members came back to share memories and check out the improvements to the building. Alumni from many different graduating classes were also in attendance.
"When we were here it was grades 10-12, but it had been built for a junior high plus senior high. So you had two cafeterias and two blocks of classrooms and so forth. So when we changed classes we had to walk outside to get from one side to the other or else take the long way up by the front cafeterias again," said Chuck Brenner, a 1977 graduate of Eau Claire North.
The school began serving 1,200 students grades 7-12 when it opened. Today, the building caters to about 1,350 high school only students.
