MADISON (WKOW) -- The statistics are sobering. One in four women will be affected by domestic violence at some point during her lifetime. In addition, one in seven men will be affected by domestic violence throughout their lifetime. There are several organizations around our area and nationwide that are working to stop those statistics. One of them is DAIS, or Domestic Abuse Intervention Services.
DAIS offers seven comprehensive crisis intervention programs as well as outreach, education and prevention programs. All services are free and confidential. DAIS operates the only domestic violence shelter in all of Dane County. The shelter only has 25 beds and is the smallest per capita in the entire state of Wisconsin. The DAIS crisis line operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. DAIS is in the midst of a Capital Campaign to build a new public facility that will double the number of shelter beds available and provide much needed space for programming and community education.
But, DAIS can not continue its efforts to help victims of abuse without your help. You can join DAIS in an all out effort to raise awareness and funds for domestic violence intervention programs by participating in the third annual Dine Out for DAIS event! All you have to do is dine out at one of thirty plus participating restaurants and 10 of your food tab will go to DAIS. The dine out is set for October 16.
