Eau Claire (WQOW)- A local plastic surgeon, who knows the devastation breast cancer can cause, rallies the community to help find a cure.
The first annual Pink Ribbon Charity Golf Classic was held in Eau Claire on September 15th. The outing, hosted by Dr. Joseph Rucker, raised over $20,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society. The money will be used to help local women battling breast cancer and will also fund research.
On top of that Dr. Rucker has pledged to donate towards the cure for every breast reconstruction surgery he performs. "I had an aunt who unfortunately contracted the disease and I watched her go through the chemotherapy, losing the hair, the radiation and ultimately losing her battle to breast cancer," explains Dr. Rucker. "I decided at that time that it was going to be a part of my practice, to be able to help rebuild and kind of put things right, things that were destroyed by disease."
You can join the fight against breast cancer Saturday October 20th during the 5th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. WQOW News 18 is proud to be a sponsor of the event and we hope all of you will join us Saturday morning at the state theatre! For more information click here.
