EC Memorial senior Sydney WolfeEau Claire (WQOW) -- For a third straight season, and for the fourteenth time in program history, Eau Claire Memorial will take part in the WIAA State Girls Team Tennis Tournament
"I was just talking about that with the seniors, actually it was their freshman year when we missed a year, so it was really nice that they kind of set the goal to go back to team state," says Old Abes head coach Jim Litscher, "and they've been able to do it the last three years. A lot of people do take it for granted, it's not easy, but it's our number one goal."
The Old Abes have an indoor workout Monday night at the Eau Claire YMCA Tennis Center. A number of the team members took part in the State Individual Tournament last week at the Nielsen Tennis Center on the UW-Madison campus., so it's a confident group of Abes going back there this week.
"It is a different area, it's much bigger," says Memorial senior Sydney Wolfe, "and you get to play with all the top players in the state, you see them all the time, so being there a few times does, I think, give our team an advantage, a few of our players have been there multiple times, so I think it will come in handy when the time comes."
"It's really exciting to have your team up in that stadium," says Memorial senior Sarah Israel, "it's so exciting, and being used to it really gets you prepared, and yeah, it's just really fun."
The Old Abes face Divine Savior Holy Angels, Friday, at 5:30 P.M. If Memorial moves on, the team will play in the Division 1 semifinals Saturday, at 9:00 A.M.
