Eau Claire (WQOW) - Salary negotiations have been finalized between Eau Claire teachers and the school district.
During Monday night's school board meeting, the board voted to implement the Master Agreement. The school board agreed on raises that, across the board, total just over half a million dollars. That comes to about $679 per person. This year, each teacher will receive the same raise; regardless of how long they have been teaching or what they currently make.
About a month ago, the Eau Claire Area School District and Association of Educators began the process, which looked much different than previous years. Before Act 10, benefits were also up for negotiation, now it is just salary.
"Their salary dropped, six to eight percent, depending on where they were in this district and what they were doing. That was one of the cost saving measures that the district implemented, with Act 10, with the tools that they were able to get through Act 10, to help balance the budget. So, just coming off of that, when you think of anyone's salary going down, six, seven, eight percent, that was a sizable chunk that we're trying to start to work our way back from, " says Eau Claire Association of Educators Negotiations Chair, James Martin.
This Master Agreement is in place for the 2012-13 school year.
