Eau Claire (WQOW) - A fire this week in Eau Claire leads to allegations that a woman left her young daughter alone in the house.
Firefighters were called to a home on Talmadge Street around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The house was filled with smoke from clothing that caught fire on top of a heater. An 11-year-old girl told police she woke up to smoke, and alarms going off. Officers say she screamed for her mother but got no response and couldn't find her. The child grabbed her dogs and got out safely.
Her mother, Krissy Angus, has now been charged with child neglect. The girl told investigators her mother had left her alone in the past.
It wasn't until nearly 12 hours after the fire that Angus contacted police. She denied leaving the child alone. Angus also said she was with her mother but police had already contacted the woman who said she had no idea where Angus was.
Angus is also charged with possessing methamphetamine and marijuana that police say was sitting on a coffee table.
