Shane Gregory taken into custody in Chippewa County

Chippewa County (WQOW) – The man who was at the center of two manhunts this week has been captured.

Shane Gregory was caught Friday afternoon by the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office.  He was spotted in the parking lot of the Bateman Tavern and law enforcement chased him on foot. They say he ran into a nearby house, came out another door then ran across a highway and through a trailer court.  After a quarter-mile chase through the woods he was finally caught.

On Monday, Gregory eluded authorities twice, first after he allegedly tried to run down a Chippewa County deputy who fired shots at him.  After crashing his car Gregory escaped into woods.  He then allegedly stole an SUV.  Later, after being spotted in Altoona, Gregory again fled into the woods.  Armed officers swarmed the area because there was concern he was armed.   They were unable to find him at that time.  Gregory faces a number of possible charges.
