Eau Claire (WQOW) - Nearly a thousand people help the American Cancer Society beat their fundraising goal this morning.
Today was the 5th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. More than $131,000 was raised for breast cancer treatment research, surpassing this year's goal by $10,000. Many breast cancer survivors were on hand at the event as well to meet other survivors and share their stories.
"Being diagnosed with breast cancer is overwhelming. Getting through the treatment stage is probably the biggest battle that you have, but knowing that you've got family, friends, and a great support system really helps at a time when you're in need," said breast cancer survivor Cheryl Rue.
WQOW is a proud sponsor of the walk. Last year's event raised more than $105,000.
