Eau Claire (WQOW) - The lawyer for the man accused of stabbing a teen to death in Eau Claire is claiming self-defense.
17-year-old Bobbie Vue, a student at Eau Claire North High, died after being stabbed early Sunday morning. Doua Vang is accused of stabbing Vue during a fight at a party at Vang's apartment off of Richard Drive in Eau Claire.
In court Monday, Vang's lawyer said he was acting in self-defense and protecting his residence after Vue and four others allegedly forced their way into his apartment. But prosecutors said the fight had spilled out into a common area of the building. They also say Vue was punching someone else not Vang, when Vang allegedly stabbed him.
Vang allegedly told police that during the fight he became "sick of it". They say he admitted going back to his apartment, grabbing a large kitchen knife, and returning to the fight to stab Vue. Prosecutors said the seven-to-ten inch blade went all the way into Vue's chest.
Four others, including three high school students, remain in jail. They allegedly brought pool cues, a knife and a fire extinguisher to use as weapons in the fight. Their bond was set at $25,000. All of the suspects will return to court on Wednesday.
Police say that one of the teens had been at a party at Vang's and felt disrespected when he was accused of being a gang member. That's when he allegedly left, but returned with the four others. Also in court, the assistant district attorney told the judge that there is significant concern about potential retaliation against Vang, by members of the victim's family.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Eau Claire Police are continuing their investigation Sunday after an early morning fight left a 17-year-old dead.
Five people were arrested, including one for first degree intentional homicide. Doua Vang is accused of stabbing 17-year-old Bobbie Vue. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Four others were arrested on charges of substantial battery and disorderly conduct.
Police say it all started at a party Saturday night in Eau Claire off Richard Drive. They say early this morning, there was a confrontation at a party being hosted by Doua Vang. Police say Patchara Vue was accused of having gang affiliation by someone at Vang's party. He left, and came back with four other people, including Bobbie Vue. That's when police say a fight broke out around 2:15 Sunday morning.
"This led to a large fight involving rocks, wooden objects, and a knife. The investigation determined that Doua Vang stabbed Bobbie Vue with a knife," says Lt. Jim Southworth with the Eau Claire Police Department.
Police say four others were taken to the hospital with injuries from the fight. This is just the latest incidence in a string of violence in Eau Claire.
"It happened two buildings away from mine," said Robby Charles of Eau Claire. Charles says she was awakened by an argument at a nearby apartment late Saturday night.
"It was going all night, but it really started to escalate more towards 11:30pm, because that's when I woke up, and I could hear it. And I then opened my window and I could hear loud yelling across the courtyard in another building," Charles said.
Police say a party at that apartment led to a confrontation. Doua Vang has been arrested for first degree intentional homicide, after stabbing Bobbie Vue. Four others were also arrested on other charges.
"The cases that we are investigating and going through now seem to be isolated incidents, in other words not just a random act type of thing. And no matter what community you're in, you're going to end up with issues like this. It just so happens that we ended up with a number of them all right in a row. But the general citizen I don't think has any fear. We are still out doing what we need to do to make sure the community is safe, and that's what we're always going to do," said Lt. Jim Southworth of the Eau Claire Police Department.
Lieutenant Southworth says all of the cases the police department now has to investigate have caused some shuffling in the department.
"There have been many extreme cases going on, what seems like all at one time. And what that does it is does have a draw on resources. We've had our spells or our times where we've been extremely busy. This recent series of events, I don't know if we could say yes or no we've ended up with something very similar to this, I don't think so. But as far as significant types of cases, yes. We've had stretches before where we've had people working lots of hours, working on different types of cases. But I would say these are more significant type cases that we've seen like this in a stretch before, but I don't think it's something we've never dealt with here before. We've had circumstances similar to this, and we've come through in the past," Southworth said.
The Eau Claire Police Chief released a statement, saying, "The street culture in our nation has reinforced the idea that being 'disrespected' must be met with confrontation and retaliation. This attitude has led to violent, tragic encounters."
