High speed chase leads to 2 arrests in Rock County

ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) – An early morning high speed chase in the City of Janesville involving a stolen vehicle leads to two arrests on Sunday.

Rock County Sheriff's Office located a stolen SUV from Illinois in the area of East Racine Street and I-90 westbound around 3:32 a.m.  The Rock County 911 Center confirmed the vehicle was stolen.

According to the press release, deputies from the Rock County Sheriff's Office tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated to a high rate of speed onto I-90/39 westbound.

Authorities said deputies pursued the SUV at speeds of up to 113 miles per hour. 

Deputies asked officers from Edgerton Police to deploy stop sticks on I-90/39 at STH 59.  The SUV hit the stop sticks, deflating three tires but the SUV continued to drive.  The driver of the SUV exited I-90 westbound at mile marker 156 and continued west on USH 51.

Authorities said the SUV slowed to speeds of approximately 60 mph as it entered the City of Stoughton.  As the SUV struck the curb and came to a stop, occupants fled on foot.  Authorities apprehended both occupants minutes later.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office arrested the driver, Nicholas C. Svoboda, 19-year-old of Cary, IL, for operating a motor vehicle without consent, resisting, knowingly flee an officer and a fugitive complaint.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office arrested the passenger, Brittany T. Featherling, 20-year-old of Chicago, IL, for operating a motor vehicle without consent, resisting and a fugitive complaint.

Authorities said Svoboda and Featherling are in custody at the Rock County Jail pending an initial court appearance on October 22 at 3:00 p.m.
