Healthy Halloween options

MADISON (WKOW) -- Halloween is right around the corner and many of you are already buying up pounds of candy for the trick or treaters. However, too much candy is not good for growing bodies and our nation as a whole is dealing with a rise in childhood obesity.

Celebrating the holiday is important to many people, especially children, and there are ways to make it more healthy and just as fun for everyone. On Monday, the Wake Up Wisconsin team is joined by dietician Marianne Merrick to talk about alternatives to handing out tons of candy.

Merrick says, one simple way to have a healthier Halloween is simply to limit the number of homes that you allow your child to visit on Halloween. You can also hand out fruit or toys at the door as an alternative to candy and sweets, this year.
