Polk County (WQOW) - Deputies say a woman was too drunk to drive but still managed to go to extreme measures to avoid capture.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office was called to a rollover crash late Sunday night near Balsam Lake. A vehicle left Highway 8, rolled and caught fire. A witness said the apparent driver fled into the woods.
That's where deputies eventually found Jennifer Bernard hiding in a tree 60 feet off the ground. Bernard, of Balsam Lake, came down willingly. Investigators say her alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
Bernard was arrested for 2nd offense drunk driving.
