Little boy sustains 3rd degree burns from campfire

Posted:

Bruce (WQOW) - A little boy is taken to the hospital after suffering severe burns in a campfire.

Rescue crews were called out Saturday night to a home on Highway 40 near Bruce. They were told the 6-year old boy had either fallen into the campfire or his clothing caught on fire when an adult turned his back for a few minutes. He said he had warned the boy earlier not to get so close to the fire.

The boy was reported to have third degree burns to his back. A helicopter that was called to take him to the hospital was called off after it was determined the wait would be too long. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance instead.

There's no word on his condition.
