Wausau woman charged in dog's death

WAUSAU (WKOW) -- A Wausau woman is charged with animal abuse in the death of her boyfriend's dog.

Marathon County prosecutors have charged 20-year-old Sean Janas with felony animal mistreatment and poisoning an animal, a misdemeanor.

According to the criminal complaint, Janas allegedly wrote diary entries about abusing her boyfriend's 4-year-old German shepherd-Labrador mix.

Assistant District Attorney Lamont Jacobson reports that according to the diary Janas kept, "it appears she took joy in abusing the animal."

Investigators say the dog, named Mary, died in June.

Janas was in jail Tuesday on a $2,500 cash bond. She is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing October 31. Online court records did not list a defense attorney.
