Eau Claire (Press Release, ECPD) - On Friday, October 26, 2012, at 1:11 p.m. Eau Claire Police and Fire/Rescue units were dispatched to the intersection of Hendrickson Drive (Highway 37) and Interstate 94 for a crash with injury.

Emergency personnel from the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Township Fire and Emergicare First Responders also responded and assisted at the scene.

Preliminary investigation into the crash by the Eau Claire Police Department indicates that there were two vehicles involved: a semi-tractor trailer unit and a Dodge pickup truck which was pulling an empty flatbed gooseneck trailer.

The semi was exiting from eastbound Interstate 94 and proceeding through a green traffic signal, making a left turn onto southbound Hendrickson Drive. The Dodge truck was northbound on Hendrickson Drive and did not stop for the red traffic signal. The Dodge truck collided with the trailer portion of the semi unit.

The Dodge truck was driven by an adult male who was the lone occupant. Emergency personnel worked for approximately 30 minutes to extricate this driver from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The semi was driven by an adult male who was also the lone occupant. He was not injured.

The Eau Claire Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team is currently on scene investigating the details of the crash.

Although traffic is being directed and flowing slowly both northbound and southbound on Hendrickson Drive, expect delays in the area as the lanes on Hendrickson Drive are currently mostly blocked. Traffic exiting from Interstate 94 at Exit #65 is only allowed to turn northbound onto Hendrickson Drive.

The Eau Claire Police Department will release additional details when they become available.
