MADISON (WKOW) -- Monday October 29, 2012 is National Cat Day! It's a great opportunity for every cat owner and cat lover to pay a little extra attention to the country's most popular pet!
Just a fun fact for everyone: there are currently more than 86 million cats owned in the United States. Cats are known to have strong, flexible bodies, quick reflexes, sharp retractable claws, and teeth adapted to killing small prey. Cats can hear sounds too faint or too high in frequency for human ears, such as those made by mice and other small game. They can also see in near darkness.
Despite being solitary hunters, cats are a social species. Cats have a rapid breeding rate. Cats were considered a cult animal in ancient Egypt. Therefore, they are believed to have been domesticated there, but that information is not yet confirmed.
On Monday the Wake Up team celebrated their own cats! Dani Maxwell has three cats and Brian Olson has seven to date!
