UPDATE: Red Cross Blood donations needed for Sandy victims

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- You can help the victims of Hurricane Sandy by donating blood at an American Red Cross blood drive.

Tom Mooney, CEO at American Red Cross  - Badger Chapter, says more than 100 blood drives along the East Coast have been canceled due to the hurricane. That means anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 unites of blood won't be collected. Click here to find a blood drive near you.

Mooney says 19 volunteers and one staff member were deployed to the East Coast over the weekend, but they're now in a "wait and see mode" until travel conditions become safe.

Mooney says cleaning up from Sandy will be an expensive ordeal. If you'd like to make a monetary donation for disaster relief, click here or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

MADISON (WKOW) -- Many people are looking for ways to help the victims and residents injured by Hurricane Sandy.

While there are many ways to donate and support victims, one of the easiest and most effective ways is to simply give blood.

The American Red Cross is asking for blood donations to benefit the victims of Sandy. The Red Cross is also asking for platelets donations.

If you are unable to donate blood, you can volunteer at any of the local Red Cross chapters to help ensure that every blood donor has a positive experience.
