Eau Claire (WQOW)- Six volunteers from the Western Wisconsin chapter of the American Red Cross have been sent east. They'll help provide food, water and shelter for people displaced by Sandy.
Another 20 area volunteers are on stand by waiting to be assigned. WQOW News 18 caught up with one volunteer who is being deployed for the first time.
"I'm bringing rain gear and snow gear because we're not sure where we're going and we're not quite sure what the weather will be like when we get there," says Linda Soltis-Schroeder, an American Red Cross volunteer.
On Wednesday Xcel Energy employees from Wisconsin will also pack up and head east to help crews try and restore power to the millions without.
