MADISON -- The Wisconsin women's basketball team defeated UW-La Crosse 90-39 on Thursday night at the Kohl Center in the first exhibition game of the 2012 season. Four Badgers scored double-digits in the victory.

"I'm very pleased with our performance tonight," said head coach Bobbie Kelsey. "Everyone played. We looked pretty good in aspects of our game."

Junior Morgan Paige scored Wisconsin's first points in the game with a pair of free throws, while freshman guard Nicole Bauman was the first newcomer to score at the Kohl Center with a 3-pointer to put the Badgers up 13-7.

From there the offense took off, and Wisconsin went on a 27-8 run to end the half. Wisconsin was up 40-15 after the first half, with only five turnovers and 17 points off of UW-La Crosse turnovers.

The second half started a little slow, and saw the Eagles go on a 5-0 run. Jacki Gulczynksi scored a layup off of a Bauman missed three, which sparked a 16-0 run for Wisconsin. The Badgers recorded 23 steals and 42 points off of turnovers, which mainly came in the second half.

With six minutes left in the game, the Badgers went up 71-30 with a layup from AnnMarie Brown. A Badger steal by Dakota Whyte was finished with a layup by Tessa Cichy to put the Badgers up 79-33. Wisconsin hit the 90-point mark with a shot from the block by Gulczynski.

Gulczynksi was the Badgers' leading scorer with 18 points, going four-for-five from the free throw line. The forward also grabbed five rebounds on the night. Three other Badgers contributed in the double-digits in the victory, with Brown scoring 11 and Bauman and Whyte scoring 10 a piece.

"Jacki has really worked on her shooting and has really taken the open shot when she has it, " said Kelsey. "I am happy for her. I think she is a hard working kid, as a lot of the others are, but she puts in a lot of time with her shooting."

Wisconsin out-rebounded UW-La Crosse 40-27 on the night. The Badgers also posted an impressive 56.1 field goal percentage and held the Eagles to 27.7 percent. The bench proved to be important for Wisconsin, as they scored 47 of the team's 90 points.

Wisconsin hosts Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday at 2 p.m. for the last exhibition game of the season. Fans in attendance will receive a free team poster.
