ARGYLE (WKOW) -- The mother of the three kids killed in the Argyle fire back in September is on her way to recovery.
Sharon Wand's physician, Dr. Lee Faucher from UW Hospital, says 65 percent of Sharon's body was burned in the fire, including her face, both arms, hands and both lower exterminates.
"She also had injury to her lungs, which is common for people involved in a house fire," Dr. Faucher said. "And with that information, I told the family after she was admitted, I only thought she had a 10 percent chance of survival."
Her husband, Armin Wand, and his brother, 19-year-old Jeremy Wand are charged in the fatal fire.
Dr. Faucher tells 27 news, Sharon didn't know about the fire until a few days ago.
"When someone is sick as Sharon was, they're given medications to keep them sedated, and also the volume of pain medicine that someone needs is pretty extensive," Dr. Faucher said. "She didn't know the events of the fire until recently. She wasn't awake enough for us to tell her and for her to comprehend that."
He says the family asked him to tell Sharon when she came to.
"It's always difficult, but as a trauma surgeon, I get a lot of practice doing that," Dr. Faucher said. "Informing people a tragic event has occurred. I felt if the family wanted me to do it, I should do it."
Dr. Faucher said Sharon's breathing tube has finally been removed and she is able to speak again. He did say she still requires the feeding tube though because he says the nutritional requirement for someone with a large burn is greater than someone could actually take on their own."
Sharon has undergone a few surgeries already, but Dr. Faucher expects her to got through a couple more operations in the future.
He says her condition has improved greatly and that she's getting better everyday, but she is still in critical condition.
Dr. Faucher says Sharon's daughter, who also survived the fire, got to see her mom for the first time on Thursday since the fire. He says Sharon talks and asks about her a lot.
"That's I think going to be a great motivation to continue to get better because she still has her daughter who needs her," Dr. Faucher said.
