Stave trying to stay positive despite broken collarbone

MADISON (WKOW) -- After a week off, Wisconsin will try to clinch a second trip to the Big Ten Championship with a win Saturday at Indiana.

The Badgers will have to do it without quarterback Joel Stave, who is out 8 weeks with a broken collarbone.

On Monday, Stave spoke to the media for the first time since he went down against Michigan State, and the freshman quarterback is doing his best to stay positive.

"I do have a lot of time here, a lot of time left to play, and I just have to remember that and make the most of all the opportunities I have in front of me," Stave said. "It was a lot of work getting to where I was, but it's part of the game. Injuries happen, so I'm trying to stay positive and worry about what I can do to get better."

Stave says he would like to be back for the bowl game, if possible, but he will wait to see how his recovery is coming along.

Stave says he won't travel with the team this weekend and for the first time in his UW career, he'll watch the game on TV.
