Eau Claire County (Press Release) - UPDATE: A red 1994 Pontiac Sunbird driven by Tyler J. Simenson of Eleva, was traveling northbound on Hwy 93.

Simenson lost control of his vehicle causing the vehicle to enter the southbound lane and was struck by a southbound vehicle.  Simenson was taken to an area hospital for injuries received from the crash. Simenson was cited for too fast for conditions.

The southbound vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Corolla, was driven by Graham M. Barnes of Eau Claire.  Passengers in the Toyota were Barnes' three children Zayvier, 9, Eylsa, 7, and Qwynn age 2 (male). All occupants of the Toyota were transported to an area hospital for injuries received from the crash.  Zayvier later passed away at the hospital from injuries sustained from the crash.

The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the crash and once the investigation is complete the reports will be sent to the District Attorney's Office for review.

Eau Claire County (WQOW) - Officials now say it was a child who died in a crash Tuesday morning on Highway 93.

The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department has not yet released the name of the 9-year old victim. The child, from the Eau Claire area, was in a car with three other people.

Deputies say their car was hit by an oncoming car that lost control and crossed the center line. They say slushy roads may have been a factor.

An investigation is still underway. The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday.
