TUCSON, Ariz. (WKOW) -- The man who pleaded guilty to a deadly Arizona shooting rampage that wounded former Congresswoman Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will spend the rest of his life in prison.
U.S. District Judge Larry Burns sentenced 24-year-old Jared Lee Loughner on Thursday for the January 2011 attack that left six people dead and Giffords and 12 wounded.
Loughner pleaded guilty to federal charges under an agreement that guarantees he will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The hearing marked the first time victims -- including Giffords -- could confront Loughner in court. Giffords' husband spoke on her behalf, saying Loughner changed his wife's life forever but couldn't dent her spirit.

Jared Lee Loughner has told a judge in Tucson, Arizona, that he will not be speaking at his sentencing hearing.
Giffords and her astronaut husband, Mark Kelly, are in the courtroom, along with Loughner's parents.
Loughner had pleaded guilty to 19 federal charges under a plea agreement.
One of the victims, Susan Hileman, was among his victims testifying Thursday at a sentencing hearing where Loughner is expected to get life in prison. spoke at the hearing. She was shot three times when Loughner killed six people in the shooting.
Hileman kept glancing back at Loughner as she spoke to the court, and he looked at her. Loughner's parents had their heads down as Hileman said Loughner's parents, college and community had failed Loughner.
TUCSON (WKOW) -- The man who shot former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords will be sentenced on Thursday.
Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, will be in federal court for the sentencing of Jared Loughner. Giffords was shot in the head, during an outdoor event to meet constituents in January 2011 in Tucson.
After the hearing, Kelly is expected to make a statement. This will mark the first chance for victims, including Giffords, to confront Loughner in court.
Loughner is now 24 years old. He pleaded guilty three months ago to 19 federal charges under an agreement that guarantees he will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. The deal calls for the dismissal of 30 other charges and a sentence of seven consecutive life terms, followed by 140 years in prison.
Loughner was diagnosed schizophrenic and underwent forcible drug treatments.
